Who are those Meez behind the masks?

Posted in politics with tags on September 18, 2008 by foruminsider

Hi-dee-ho, Meezers! Your faithful Forum Insider here with some new, cool, uber-political stuff…

Tina Fey’s hilarious impersonation of Republican Veep nominee, Sarah Palin, on the season opener of Saturday Night Live last week has confirmed what we all already knew, the Presidential election season is in full swing.

Meez is right there on the campaign trail with all the rest of America, eager to see what happens in this historical election. We’ve even gone so far as to create a Obama-Biden Townhall & a McCain-Palin Townhall in Burbia.

Plus, we’ve made a couple of things for the MeezMaker which allow you to show off which candidate you support in a fun, somewhat stylish way. See if you can guess the Meezer behind the mask!

*Note: Wearing of a political mask in no way denotes who either Meezer supports in the upcoming election… Well, at least it doesn’t for Roscoe.

‘Till next time, STAY MEEZY!

Cool Video: Hip Hop Hijabis

Posted in fashion, hip-hop, music with tags on September 2, 2008 by foruminsider

In a cool coincidence, the day before the start of Ramadan we found this cool YouTube video posted by Samah007 featuring a Meez avatar in one of our hijabis rapping to Poetic Pilgrimage’s “Definition of a Pilgrim.” We think that Samah007 used her Meez avi in a really cool way to express her personal beliefs – way to go!

FYI – if you want to get a hijabis for your Meez, you can find them in the MeezMaker:

It’s HAMMER time! DanceJam comes to MeezNation…

Posted in gossip, hip-hop, music with tags , on August 13, 2008 by foruminsider

Hi-dee-ho, Meezers! It’s Kate your faithful Forum Insider here.

Today I have a story of true love to tell you.

It all started several months ago when Sean Ryan (our CEO) told myself and Lucy Meez about this super cool new website called DanceJam.

DanceJam is this superfly website which allows user to watch & rate the hottest dance videos; AND, enter dance battles & contests.

We already loved the site – as it’s really fun to watch different people’s versions of My Dougie – but, guess who one of the principle guys behind the website is?????

MC HAMMER!

That’s right. The.MC.HAMMER.

Lucy & I love Hammer. Often when we’re sitting in HQ one of us will look up from what we are doing and say “It’s Hammer Time!” Then we bust a move in our chairs, cracking ourselves up and making the people sitting around us stare at us like we’re totally batty.

Not to mention, rumor has it that Lucy still owns a pair of Hammer pants.

So imagine how thrilled we were to find out that Meez was launching a DanceJam boutique in the MeezMaker and DanceJam Hangouts in MeezNation?!?

Totally thrilled, like, totally man. Meaning we were ECSTATIC when we found out that Hammer – himself – was going to pay Meez HQ a visit… (Sadly, this happened when I was on vacation; but, Lucy said he was very gracious & cool – like you’d expect any less from HAMMER, come on!)

This has been a partnership made in heaven – we love Hammer & DanceJam – and, Hammer and DanceJam love Meez. As evidenced by a Twitter from the man himself:

Hammer LOVES Meez!

Hammer LOVES Meez!

Of course, Lucy follows Hammer’s Twitter – so she saw this right away and replied with:

Lucy LOVES Hammer & DanceJam!

Lucy LOVES Hammer & DanceJam!

Like I said, Meezers – there’s a lot o’ love floating around this office today. We couldn’t be happier that DanceJam is on Meez and that Hammer loves us… :)

True love is wonderful!

Until Next Time – IT’S HAMMER TIME!

New in MeezNation: Meez Hills!

Posted in gossip with tags , , on August 5, 2008 by foruminsider

Meez Hills

Hi-dee-ho, Meezers! Kate, your Forum Insider here with the scoop on a new Hood in MeezNation!

While I was on vaycay last week, Roscoe and our hard working Meez Team released the newest hood in MeezNation: Meez Hills! Looked over by the very posh Rich Meez, Meez Hills is the home of Meez mansions: cool new celebrity hangouts with many roomz in which to mix and mingle.

Of course, who else would be the first baller & shot caller to have a swank mansion in Meez Hills than our friend 50 Cent! Over the weekend the thisis50.com Mansion was one of MeezNation’s most popular destinations and one of the hardest places to get into! Talk about velvet ropes!!!

My inside sources tell me that soon Music Manor (a place for all you fans of cool bands to hang) will be released into Meez Hills. Keep your eyes peeled Meezers, I have a feeling that Mansions will be popping up left and right over there as the Hills grow into one of the coolest places to be in MeezNation!

Until next time ~ STAY MEEZY!

Something Crazy This Way Comes

Posted in fashion, updates on July 23, 2008 by themeezinsider

Meezeroons!

I have got the absolute BEST scoop to share with you.

A few weeks ago, when Meez Nation launched, several stealthy Meezaholics noticed that Katie Meez of Arcadia was wearing something a little…unique. Roscoe and Lucy got a few questions about the cool stuff that Katie Meez was wearing.

Arcadia Katie

More accurately, a bajillion Meezers PMed saying, “OMGFREAKOUT WANTNEED AVIATOR CAP THXBAI”. So, Meez did what you asked and released the Aviator Cap to the public.

But, why, you wonder to yourself? Why, would the great Meez Makers have an Aviator Cap just lying around and not give it to the public to wear and love?

But, why, you wonder more, is Katie Meez wearing that really cute corset bolero jacket? I’ve never seen that before either.

But, why, you wonder even louder and crazier, are all of the tiny Meez next to Katie Meez ALSO wearing cool stuff I’ve never seen before?! WHY!?

Well my dearest Meezers. I think the evidence all points in one direction: Meez is cooking up a suite of items that are a little funky, a little punky, and a little “steamy”. If I were a betting woman, I’d say odds are good we’re getting an entire theme full of Arcadia-style stuff. And if my sources are correct, I’d say it’s going to happen sooner rather than later. So, save up those Coinz. Something crazy is coming.

So you wanna be a Mod? Take some advice from the ladies of the Mod Squad!

Posted in meez mod squad on July 23, 2008 by foruminsider

Hi-dee-ho, Meezers! In the wake of Lucy announcing that the administrators were accepting applications for new moderators, we’ve been swamped over here at HQ with applications & emails asking how exactly to become a part of our super-fly Mod Squad.

Well, Meezers, recently I had a chance to chat via email with four of the 26-ish AMAZING volunteer moderators of Meez.com: Jubileegirl06, Monchhichi, Sailormars84 and Cravepain were all hand picked by the administrators and voted upon by their peers before they became members of the Meez Mod Squad. And, they were all kind enough to take time out of their super busy schedules to chat with me about the good, the bad and the ugly of moderating the Meez forums & MeezNation.

The Mod Squad

Forum Insider: How long have you been a Meez Moderator?

Jubileegirl06: I’ve been a moderator since last July, so it’s been a year! A great year, I might add. I’ve been through a few online communities, and Meez is the best one I’ve found!
Monchhichi: Since May 2008.
Sailormars84: I’ve only been a Meez Moderator for a few weeks. I’m one of the newest among their ranks, but the other Mods are so welcoming; you’d have thought I had known them for years.
Cravepain: I have been a Moderator on Meez for little over three months.

FI: Are you a Junior or Senior Moderator?

Jubileegirl06: Senior!
Monchhichi: I am a newly minted Senior Moderator and excited to start this new chapter of Meez.
Sailormars84: Junior Mod ^_^
Cravepain: I am currently a Junior Moderator.

FI: What forums/Hoods do you moderate?

Jubileegirl06: Technically, since I’m a senior moderator, I can and do moderate all forums and Hoods. Before the new forums were in place, though, I was over the Controversy and Gaming forums, and I am one of two moderators who are officially assigned to Chillville. I don’t think that Whateverfloats and I have had any bad people causing a ruckus in Chillville yet! They seem like a good bunch.
Monchhichi: I have the honor of having Role Play, 13-15, Fashionista Central and Hell’s Kitchen Forum and all of the Hangouts in Hell’s Kitchen.
Sailormars84: I moderate the Welcome Newbies, Meez Videos, Controversy and Geek Central.
Cravepain: The places I am assigned to Moderate are; Art, Comics & Drawing, Meez Contests, and Multimedia. I am also the Moderator in Meez Nation’s Burbia.

FI: When did you join Meez?

Jubileegirl06: I joined Meez in January of 2007. I think I saw some of my friends making their avatars and posting them onto their MySpaces (back when I actually used mine, lol), and it looked like a very artsy and fun avatar system, so I joined up. I found the forums soon after, and the rest is, as they say, history!
Monchhichi: May 2007.
Sailormars84: I joined Meez in July of last year. (Now that you mention it, I just passed my one year anniversary!)
Cravepain: I joined Meez in October of 2007.

FI: What’s your favorite forum to hang out in?

Jubileegirl06: I love hanging out in the Controversy because I’m very interested in controversial things (and hearing people’s opinions on such things; ) but, I also love the Moderators forum because of the friends I have there. I also spend time in Gaming and Multimedia.
Monchhichi: Of course I love the forums I moderate in and I try to spend as much time in those to get to know all of the people that post in there often. I started out on Meez in Meezer Geezers and that forum will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart.
Sailormars84: I have a few favorite forums. You’ll usually find me in Meezers Geezers (where all of us that feel old when someone says “What’s Fraggle Rock?” hang out,) Controversy (I can’t pass up a good debate,) the Art forum (art is a huge part of my life) and “Geek Central” (where I can be proud that I’m an uber-geek!)
Cravepain: My favorite forum, and the one I consider my ‘Meezy Home’, is Weekly Creativity Contest. Everyone is amazing and very down to earth. They are creative, inspiring, and so talented. I couldn’t think of a better bunch of people to be around on a daily basis.

FI: What’s your favorite forum to moderate?

Jubileegirl06: I love moderating the Controversy forum. It’s a tad different than moderating other post-specific forums because you have to decide whether the thread is of “controversial merit” or not. Also, controversial things don’t always go hand in hand with Meez’s PG-13 rating, so I’m always wary of the threads that could possibly get the R rating–we had a thread about masturbation a while back that got very descriptive, for example.
Monchhichi: Hell’s Kitchen. I got to start with them from brand new. I have enjoyed seeing how it grows from its infancy.
Sailormars84: My favorite forum to moderate is definitely “Controversy”. There’s always something going on, the discussions are great to take part in, and the regulars are great. Feisty, but great! ^_^
Cravepain: My favorite forum to Moderate would be Weekly Creativity Contest. I am very protective of the ones I care about, and enjoy making sure everything is running smoothly and no one is getting harassed or bothered.

FI: What is your favorite thing ABOUT being a moderator?

Jubileegirl06: Hate to say that I love the responsibility, but I do. I’m not responsible for many things except for my grades in college, so it’s good to be one of the few that the administration trusts to keep the site clean.
Monchhichi: Helping all of the Meez users. I love having someone that doesn’t know how to do something and then I show them and even though it is all in text I can almost see their face light up with happiness. It has been one of the funnest experiences for me ever. I sincerely love every single Meezer on Meez. The make me smile everyday and sometimes they even have me laughing so hard tears roll down my face.
Sailormars84: Frankly, the Moderator forums are my favorite thing about being a Mod. I feel really lucky that I’ve gotten to know the other Moderators and Admin in the last few weeks. Chatting with them, seeing a bit of what happens on the inside of Meez, seeing the hard work the others put into this site – it really makes me see Meez from a new perspective.
Cravepain: My favorite thing about being a Moderator is being able to help people more so than I could as a regular Meezer.

FI: What’s the hardest thing about being a moderator?

Jubileegirl06: Giving infractions to/banning long term or vocal users. Not only is it hard for me because I’ve been around for so long and seen and liked many vocal users, good or bad, but they have the ability to cause untold amounts of drama, if warranted.
Monchhichi: Well I would be lying if I didn’t admit that it is hard to take all the bashing you get from turning someone in for not following the rules or Terms of Service. All of the moderators experience this at some point. When we help we are the best friends they ever wanted but when we have to be the “bad mod” it amazes me the intensity with which they focus their anger on me.
Sailormars84: Knowing that other Meezers view us differently now – that’s probably the hardest thing about being a moderator.
Cravepain: The hardest thing about being a Moderator is reporting your friends. Even with everything else we go thru, the spam and harassments, for me reporting friends is still a heart breaker.

FI: Why do you think you were asked to be part of the Mod Squad?

Jubileegirl06: Back when I became a moderator, there weren’t many moderators to begin with–the only one I remember was shannon_timebomb. As one of the Controversy constants, I was very upset about the lack of moderation because of the onslaught of off-topic posts that were coming into the Controversy Forum. Also, the administration didn’t like us bumping threads, so we had to sit there and stare at “i want a bf/gf” threads. On top of that, none of the forums had the ability to stay on topic, they were rarely kept clean, from what I saw, and in the RP forum, there were always TONS of co-ed locker room and lez/bi party threads which ALWAYS turned into cybering fests. I wanted the forums to be clean and used for the purposes they were made for, so I PMed Angie about the predicament.
Long story short, I think it was a combination of being trustworthy and being so willing to help.
Monchhichi: I have always loved to help the newcomers even when I started and a lot of that has to do with the people who helped me when I was a newcomer. Any new thing I learned I wanted to pass on to the group of friends I developed. I hope they wanted me because of that and my friendliness. I am never one for a loss of words.
Sailormars84: Haha, I sometimes ask myself that. ^_^ I suppose I was asked to be part of the team because I must have demonstrated some good judgement at some point. It also helps that I had gotten to know a lot of people on the forums — I suppose I had made a name for myself as someone trying to be tolerant and helpful.
Cravepain: In all honesty, I have no idea. I mean, I try to obey rules no matter the website I am on. I also like making friends and being as much as a help I possibly can. Perhaps they seen those traits in me? I really don’t know, though I would like to know as well! Hehe.

FI: What advice do you have for other Meezers who want to become moderators?

Jubileegirl06: First of all, don’t come onto Meez expecting to become a moderator at 200 posts. I have gotten plenty of PMs from many people that I have never seen around the forums asking me to make them a moderator. Number one, I don’t have that power, and number two, you just aren’t qualified, kay? If you truly want to be a moderator, refer to my other suggestions, please!

As always, be kind and helpful around the forums and be involved. Get yourself positively noticed, but not overly noticed, if you know what I mean. You need to be involved in the community as well as being helpful, not one or the other. Oh! And don’t break the rules! If you’re sincerely sorry for what you did, it’s okay, but constantly breaking the ToS is a good sign that you won’t ever become a moderator.
Monchhichi: Take everything with a grain of salt. Don’t let the Meezers that “hate” you one day get you down, they will “love” you tomorrrow. Soak up as much knowledge as you can from these very same Meezers, they are a very intelligent bunch. Enjoy it!
Sailormars84: There’s this underlying knowledge that the Moderators should set an example for the other Meezers. I think it’s important to think of yourself as always setting an example for others – be helpful, be polite, be mature, but also remember to be yourself. I certainly didn’t become a Mod by being perfect. ^_^
Cravepain: What I would say to them is; Make sure to obey the rules and do what is needed, but always make time to socialize. Doing what needs to be done is important, but talking with fellow Meezers is just as important. Without them there would be no use for Moderators, and there would be no Meez.

*Thanks to the ladies for taking time out of their busy schedules to chat with me.  If you want to apply to be part of the Meez Mod Squad you can fill out an application by going here: http://forums.meez.com/forums/newthread.php?do=modapply

TONS o’ New Stuff on Meez!

Posted in updates on July 21, 2008 by foruminsider

Hi-dee-ho, Meezers! Your faithful Forum Insider here – apologizing for our recent blog-posting hiatus – we’ve just been CRAY CRAY BIZZY over here at Meez HQ pushing out cool new stuff for y’all. I though I’d take a quick break from my day-to-day schedule to highlight some of it for you:

Lucy Does the Carlton Meez at the end of the rainbow: our Product department recently released cool new rainbow eyes and a Meez rainbow background (requested by users.) Also requested by users: THE CARLTON!

As you can see, Lucy Meez grabbed these assets right away – changing her normal brown eyes to rainbow ones & dancing her cares away under a rainbow sky. (Lucy’s also rockin’ hot new Meez summer fashions, which you can find in the MeezMaker.)

I’ve noticed that since our fearless Forum Queen grabbed this gear that a lot of Meezers have followed in her footsteps… that’s our Lucy, always a trend setter!

A few weeks before that – around about the time that the new forums launched – Lucy started a thread in Geek Central to talk about Doctor Who.

Martha & the Doctor

Anyone who knows Lucy, knows that Doctor Who is her favorite television show. In fact, only a few weeks before that Lucy talked Roscoe into making her a “Sci Fi Police Box” animation when he updated the Sci Fi boutiques.

Not surprisingly, Doctor Who fans have been coming out of the woodwork on Meez since the release of that animation.

Amantari even wrote about it on her LiveJournal (thanks for the nice shout out!) Check out her blog – there’s a lot of cool stuff that she’s made using Meez avatars on that blog – including the most accurate depictions of the 10th Doctor & his Series 3 companion, Martha Jones, that I’ve seen.

Skepticscene models B2S fashion from Sears! I know no one is really in the mood to start thinking about going back-to-school, as it seems that summer has barely begun (especially here in the SF Bay Area where it is C-O-L-D!) But, last week our friends at Sears released their B2S fashions on Meez.com.

Thus far, these hip new clothes are some of the most popular items we’ve ever released in the MeezMaker.

I can totally understand why… they’re super cool!

GiGi Meez linked me to Skepticscene’s profile b/c she was sportin’ so many of our new items. I thought she’d make the perfect model, so I grabbed a screen cap of her showin’ off her style to post here. Doesn’t she look fierce?

Rockin' out in tha DMZ

Most excitingly there have been MAD updates to the Hoods in Meez Nation: first we saw the abyss of Nowhere, then there were some chill new spaces, like Chillax Canyon Park.

Then this past week?

ROCK BAND ROOMZ!

That’s right – the hardworking crew over here at HQ released three Hangouts where you & your friends can be the rock stars, jammin’ out on stage to sweet YouTube playlists created by our friend Martin Meez.

In Hell’s Kitchen we have The DMZ (a punk/alt/metal focused Hangout.)

In Chillville we have Crashtonbury (a clever play on Glastonbury – maybe you can guess that this is a festival music themed Hangout.)

And, in Posh Heights we have The Foxy (a clever play on The Roxy – a very famous LA club – perhaps you can guess that this club is Hip Hop/Pop music themed.)

Already it is IMPOSSIBLE to get into to these roomz to *rockout* – they are quickly becoming the most popular Hangouts in Meez Nation yet.

As you can see by the picture above, Lucy was able to slip in un-noticed by the Meezers to guest on a jam of the Dead Milkman’s song “Punk Rock Girl.” (Which rumor has it is one of her favorite guilty pleasure 1980’s punk-lite songs.)

These are hardly all the cool new features on Meez these days – really the only way you can find them all is to LOG IN & EXPLORE!

Until next time – STAY MEEZY!

~Kate

UPDATED: The New Forums are Here!

Posted in updates with tags , on June 20, 2008 by foruminsider

Please Excuse Our Dust!Hi-dee-ho, Meezers! It’s Kate your Friendly Forum Insider here with an UPDATE!

As everyone knows, this week Meez launched their brand-spankin’ new virtual world: Meez Nation

Already it’s hoppin’ over in Meez Nation – people are making personal Roomz, hanging out in the public Hangouts & generally enjoying all the cool new features…

We also just launched the brand new Meez Forums!

The look & feel is much hipper (and, more Meezy) than our old JForum forums… There are bright new graphics on the front page (including one of Lucy looking CRAY-CRAY,) lots of new bells & whistles for posting and new forums like Geek Central to play in!

Overall the reaction has been really positive to these new Meez communities – of course Roscoe, AquaMeez & the whole development team over here at Meez HQ are constantly tweaking/adding/improving to Meez Nation & the new Forums to make them even smarter, faster, stronger… But, it’s a super exciting step for all Meez-kind, for sure!

Back next week with more from the inside!

SUPER SECRET!!!

Posted in gossip, updates with tags , , on June 12, 2008 by foruminsider

Hi-dee-ho, Meezers!  Your loyal Forum Insider here with some mysterious goings on from the world o’ Meez:

Lucy sent out a Twitter tweet today with some super secret Coinz & a very cryptic message:

I’ve got a secret! It’s VIRTUALLY here, I’ll announce it FORUM-lly soon!

I have no idea what it means; but, I’ve got my theories.

At the same time, a new homepage poll appeared on the Meez.com landing page asking the question:

What do you think Meez Nation is?

Could it be that Meez is about to finally unveil their long talked about virtual world?  What of the forums?  Are the dedicated forum Meezers about to get their dream come true with a shiny, new (non-crashy) forum system?  Do Lucy & Roscoe live in your computer monitor; or, do they actually have an incorporated village full of Meez administrators & moderators who live someplace outside San Francisco?

Only time will tell, Meezers – only time will tell!

Until then, stay tuned & stay Meezy to see what happens next!

~Kate, aka. the Forum Insider
